Windsurfing: Ythan Estuary, Aberdeen Wind Direction: S Wind Stength: 10 to 20mph Surf / Sea State: Flat Air Temperature: Warm Sea Temperature: Warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Took a half day from work as the trees were being blown around all over the
place. Arrived to find the wind gusting up to 20 mph (a bit less than I'd
hoped), but thought I might get away with my 6.3m. Went out for a couple of
runs, but the wind was dropping off all the time and was eventually was
hovering around the 12-13mph mark, and I really need 14mph to get planing
without too much pumping even on my 8.0m. Had a go at rigging my 8.0m on my
215 boom, but really needed 2 or 3 cm more extension, but it worked OK -
just! Got planing a few times, but the wind only started to pick up when
the tide was well on its way out - usual story.
Got home and realised that the long extension on my broken MK Ergo actually
fitted in the old Pacific boom I'd been using (giving a max 250
extension!). However, it isn't exactly the most rigid set-up, but will do
as a spare for the future. Time to order a couple of booms. Liked the MK
Ergo, but nice to have some overlap between booms just in case the front
end goes on one of them. To be honest my faith in the longevity of the
various bits and pieces of old booms I've got cobbled together isn't
strong, so time to bite the bullet and splash some cash. Going to give the
Predators (135-195 & 182-242) from Surfstore a try after having spoken to
them on the phone and getting what seemed like some reasonable answers /
advice.
